Trump and AI chiefs sign voluntary pact to self-police Super Intelligence
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Nvidia and xAI endorse internal controls and outside audits as the White House pushes light-touch oversight.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he and leading artificial intelligence executives had signed a voluntary White House accord committing their companies to stronger self-policing of so-called Super Intelligence, as Washington races to expand data centres while calming public fears about the technology.
Signatories included Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI president Greg Brockman, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang and Elon Musk of xAI. The one-page pact, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, calls for robust internal controls, partnership with an independent external auditor, and board committees to review those findings. It leaves the door open to codifying the steps in law later, describing the compact as “morally binding.”
The summit came as communities across the United States push back against power-hungry data centres and as some labs — including OpenAI and Anthropic — have publicly urged tighter safety discipline. Trump, who also unveiled an America.gov government chatbot the same day, vowed not to “stifle” a technology he said would eclipse the Industrial Revolution, and urged firms to ease local opposition with school funding and energy-cost relief.
For Canadian policymakers watching U.S. federal AI rules, the accord signals a preference for industry-led standards over hard guardrails — a model Ottawa will have to weigh against its own emerging AI legislation and cross-border cloud dependence.
